In our many years of schooling, we have had many teachers, some good and of course, some bad. It is up to us as students, to adapt to different teachers and understand their teaching ways and personality. Of course there will always be teachers that we like and favor over others, but we need to do our best in all of our classes and grades, no matter how the teacher is.
Two traits that I find helpful in teachers are, understanding and being caring. When teachers understand it helps the entire atmosphere of the classroom, as well as individual students. When teachers are understanding towards different things it helps the student to do better in class and in life in general. It helps to take away some of the pressures that school, teachers and parents can bring. If something happens, either school related or social, and a teacher is able to be understanding towards the student, it helps them because they know someone cares and is taking the time to help them.
When a teacher is all around caring it makes a major impact on individual students and on the whole class as well. The teacher should be caring about the students, the behaviors of the students, the grades and thriving of the students and the over all atmosphere of the classroom. The teacher must care in order for the students to care. That is how good students are developed and sent out into the world.
Two character traits of teachers that I find frustrating are anger (rage) and being unfair. When teachers lash out towards the students it is does not help the situation in any way. When a student or class acts out, the teacher should not go directly to anger to resolve the problem but deal with it in a positive manner. They should instead calmly deal with the situation and move on with the class. Also, when a teacher shows signs of being unfair, it does not help the situation, for the teacher of the student. This later results with the students not caring anymore and it weakens the class altogether.
Aubrey, you have a very strong introduction and I wholeheartedly agree. Students to need to adapt to teachers and keep and open-mind, just like teachers have to. A positive atmosphere is such a cliche example but it's one of the best, because it really does make a huge difference, and both students and teachers need to work towards providing that. It makes being there more enjoyable and bearable, so students are more alert and willing to learn. Because pressure is such a large part of student's lives, any relief is appreciated and better for the students' well being. It also allows for students to become more comfortable with their teachers. The more comfortable a student is with a teacher, the more comfortable they are learning. This also keeps students from being shy and not asking questions - this way, students want to ask questions and seek for extra guidance.
I also completely with your last statement, about negative teacher traits. I know from personal experience that when a teacher is unfair or rude in any way, a student is not willing to learn. A student will sit in the class with a pout on their face the entire time, and they will not learn anything. This attitude will reflect an entire classroom, and that is completely the opposite of effective teaching and learning.
